Love, when it is whole and true, is profoundly beautiful
Unfortunately, today, people are bombarded by images of love from movies, television, magazine and advertisements which give more focus to the physical attraction and often superficial areas. This representation of love is incomplete; it does not tell the whole truth about love.
Out there, often talk of happiness.In the movies and advertisement, you often see a handsome boy and a beautiful girl enjoying themselves, doing what they want. Many of these movies and ads depict the "happiness" between a man and a woman, and you think that you will be happy if you are like them.
But if the love between a man and a woman is only superficial, this kind of happiness does not last. Too often, behind what seems to be a display of a beauty and happiness, there is a frightening emptiness.
In order to love truly and to have the fullness in our heart that real love can give, you need to be free. But what is freedom? We can probably agree that freedom is the ability to decide for yourself, to make your own choices. However, freedom is subject to conditioning. It is influence by the society you live in, the pressure to comfort to what is normal or cool according in what other do. It can also be conditioned by other things, such as your impulses, instinct and emotions.
True freedom in not external but internal. It is the freedom that keeps you from being a slave to what society or media dictate. It is the freedom that helps you make good use of intellect and control over your passion, impulses, instinct and emotions instead of being enslaved them. It is the freedom that allows you to be free from guilt over having done something wrong. It is freedom that can help identify risks and that can respond to these concerns appropriately. It is freedom that helps you conquer temptations and make mature and wise choices leading towards your good and those of others.
Oftentimes, there is only a thin line between an act that leads to freedom and another that leads to slavery. If you are sensitive, you will feel inside you. Should you watch that movie with sexually explicit content.? Should you go to that party? Should you read that unwholesome article/ how should you show your affection to or respond to the affections of someone you love? Inside yourself, this fight between from slavery is a fight that you have to do all your life. If you choose that which give you true freedom, then it will be worth all the challenges that go with making the right choices. This kind of freedom helps real love grow. In the same way, real love helps make one free.
